Get started with Matomo

When ordering Matomo from Rackfish, you can access our Matomo service by logging in. The first user always gets admin credentials and can, for example, invite colleagues to use the system.

Sending data to Matomo

Now it's time to start collecting data - this is most commonly done via the Tracking code: Access your Tracking code in Admin(cog-wheel) - Measurables - Tracking code

We recommend looking at the Tag Manager in the top right menu for more advanced users or those seeking to replace a Google Analytics installation. Tag Manager provides a lot of flexibility and allows marketers or webmasters to insert code for their tools without requiring changes to the website's code. To track with or without cookies

In Matomo, it is possible to set up tracking without cookies. Doing so has some advantages and some drawbacks:

The most significant advantage is that you don't need to ask for permission before tracking, making tracking all visitors possible. The session cookie in Matomo is allowed under GDPR and doesn't need consent since it is a necessary, non-permanent cookie.

The most significant disadvantage is that we don't get as much data from the visitors as we would with cookies. Returning visitors is not working since all visitors are considered new.

Here is a guide to tracking without cookies: https://matomo.org/faq/how-to/how-do-i-enforce-tracking-without-cookies/

And the consequences of doing so: https://matomo.org/faq/general/faq_156/

Privacy and GDPR considerations

Matomo is ideally suited to build a compliant analytics system, this involves a lot of different aspects, considerations and settings, and we recommend reading through Matomos Privacy guide: https://matomo.org/guide/manage-matomo/privacy/
